Birds and more

I would like to call these, perfect imperfect birds. A painted pattern of birds with colored wings. (Plus one music note) done in gouache 8x10. I think this would make a cute note card.

Chinese art
I miss my brother who is in china for the summer. He is going to shanghi university. Last time he was in china he brought this painting home for me. It’s a very large wall scroll. I just recently hung it up, It practically matches my wall.

House Tree

Gouache 8x10. I'm happy with how the colors turned out in this painting. At my house we have this very big potted tree that lives inside all winter. The tree's much bigger then the one in the painting as scale goes. Its really a monster. During the summer it lives on our deck. This is a painting of a couple trying to take care of their house tree.

Children’s Book: Couple of Cows

Last October I wrote a children’s book. Ever since then I have been illustrating it. Well I have been trying to move it along lately. As of right now I have fully painted 7 full page spreads. (14 book pages) I have 8 full page spreads left to paint. (Total of 30 pages) Plus The cover and type. It would be nice to be done the book by the end of the summer, but I will more likely be done by the end of the year. This is being done in my free time. At least the story is finished. I’m not going to explain the story in this blog post; I just wanted to talk a little bit about how it was going. Of course I will explain the cow pictures.
Image 1- First I figure out how cows stand
Image 2 - Then I figure out the characters
Image 3 - final sketch: also I realized the cows are facing the wrong way.
Image 4 - This is a cropped image of the cows in the book
I have to go back and paint in their shadows.
My book is not about cows, but cows are featured on one page. I just thought these couple of cows was worth a mention.

Marching band

Current painting of a marching band 10x14. I did this in gouache and acrylic paint. I have been painting with gouache for a few years now; I use acrylic paint as a base then use gouache on top to create a smooth look on textured watercolor paper. The second painting was the original I did about three years ago. This painting is much smaller and is acrylic, ink and gouache. I stopped using inks in my paintings because I think the final colors are unpredictable. I do like both paintings, the character designs haven’t changed too much. I do like that older version of that dinosaur and lion.

Scarf

One last winter painting before summer.

Monday, May 10, 2010

Recently I had some help coloring one of my drawings. My four year old cousin, Mia, did a very nice job. When I asked her why she didn’t paint one part of the dinosaur she replied “because that part I meant to be white.” She is quite the artist.

On Beaches

This is everything that reminds me of the beach in a pattern-like painting. This was done with Gouache and acrylic on heavy water color paper. I painted five beach birds, including a black headed gull ( I always see these at the Jersey shore, they are those noisy small seagulls that aren’t afraid to steal your grapes. ) Also a common seagull, a black beaked brown gull and a sand piper ( the little beach birds). Finally a Pelican, because I love them most.- ( you wont see them in Jersey or Delaware ). Other elements in the painting are a blue crab, a horseshoe crab , hermit crab, six shells including a conch and mussel, different seaweeds, a piece of drift wood and a starfish. I am glad it’s almost time for the beach.

New Website for spring

I made a new website, It took about a whole weekend. So many images to save and so many links to set. Gaah. Hopefully it was time well spent. I added more of my recent work to the site. There is a picture of me on it as well. haha. There are glitches in some of the rollover images. I'm not really sure how this happens, As long as the links work I'm ok with it. I need a break from looking at the computer.!

Many Fish

This is a painted pattern of fishes. They are simple fish made up of lines. Working on a piece like this is a little tedious but I guess its good practice. I like the finished piece. I tried to count how many fish are there but got mixed up. I know there are at least 30. Or 30ish. splash splash
